Roller questions
Do you have to remove the crank or pistons to do the conversion?
Do you have to change the cam bearings to use the roller cam?
Do you have to change pushrods?
If you have roller rockers for a flat tappet motor, can they be used on the roller mod?
I'm not sure if you have to change the cam bearings, but I think those bores should be the same regardless of roller or flat tappet cam.
Certainly the taller roller lifters will require shorter push rods.
You should be able to use roller rockers with flat tappet or roller cams, assuming they have the same mounting system (stud size, pedestal) as your non-roller rockers.
They sure can, but the difficulty level and cost depends on what year engine block you're working on. Most late model blocks are roller cam ready and only need the parts installed. Older blocks do not have roller cam provisions and you need a $300 set of special link bar lifters to make it happen with those blocks.
Do you have to remove the crank or pistons to do the conversion?
Like xlt4wd90 said, no the crank and pistons don't have to come out. However, it may be necessary to pull the heads on a 302. Some heads don't allow enough clearance underneath of them to install the taller roller lifters.
Do you have to change the cam bearings to use the roller cam?
No. All small block Fords from 1962 to current take the same cam bearings regardless of engine size or camshaft type.
Do you have to change pushrods?
Absolutely.
If you have roller rockers for a flat tappet motor, can they be used on the roller mod?
The rockers don't care what kind of cam is operating them.
