i saw a post awhile ago but could not find it now--1992 351w engine knock--sounds like something real bad-right side of motor-sounds like someone hitting it with a big hammer--but i'm sure its not a rod or valve-it runs fine--that old post said something about smog system-??-any ideas-thanks
The big hammer knock usually means a rod bearing has given up.
Running it that way will damage the crank beyond repair. It could even lead to more damage if the rod breaks, or debris from this destruction gets flung around inside the engine.
Pull the right side valve cover, and if things are in order there, pull the pan and inspect the rods.
