NEED HELP no acceleration and stalling

i have a 2005 excursion psd that is having severe acceleration issues. sometimes not always when taking off from a stop the gas pedal will go to the floor and the truck will just idle and sometimes idle low and stall. i checked for codes and there was none. i cleaned the egr 2 weeks ago and that didn't do it so i took it to the dealership. they said it was the TPS and that it was $800 being that it is the adjustable pedal. i told them i thought that was a little to much for a freaking pedal and they agreed. the mechanic said he would try and put a fixed pedal in instead for $170. he put it in and it worked great for a week and a half. tonight i'm at work and my wife calls and tells me the gas pedal is not working again and its stalling. i spent a total of $450 at the dealer last week for something that didn't solve the problem. i'm hoping someone can tell me what the problem is so i don't have to waste any more money. my x has 105,000 and is not under warranty. any help would be appreciated

I don't know what a fixed pedal is but that is where I would start if you are not getting any codes. Since the "fixed" pedal had resolved the problem the first time can you verify it hasn't failed again?

I assume you have changed your fuel filter regularly? What are you using to read codes? Truck does this in gear and in park?

Could be a bit of carbon jammed in the intake / exhaust valve.

Do this:

Pull over to the side of the road...

Put it in neutral

Rev engine repeatedly to 3,000 rpm

If this is the issue... it will likely not code.

Did you have EGR cleaned recently?

Carbon dislodged from operations?

Do you regularly do Italian tuneup?

a fixed pedal is a non-adjustable pedal, it doesn't adjust to the height of the driver. to check for codes i bought a POCKETSCAN PLUS from advance auto. the fuel filter and oil filter have been changed within 1000 miles. the truck has this problem in gear . the egr was cleaned less than 2 weeks ago and it was filthy. i also cleaned and vaccumed out the chamber in which the egr is housed. right now i can't rev the engine to 3000 because my wife took it to work. she drives it with 2 feet, one always on the gas pedal as to never lose the throttle and the other one to break.(not very safe in ny traffic). when she gets home i will rev it up. what i'm i looking for when i do this or will it just clean the carbon off a sensor? what exactly is an Italian tuneup?

If you just cleaned the EGR... bingo... did you try to vacuum out as much carbon as possible out of the plenum?

9/10 chance you have a carbon particle in valve problem.

See my recent posts for Italian tuneup.

Repeat:

Most probable is carbon in intake/exhaust valve jam.

when my wife came home i took the truck out and rev'd the engine up to 3000 rpm a quite a few times and it seemed to run find. this morning i drop my son off at school and on the way back i lost the throttle again. the gas pedal went to the floor and i coasted into my driveway. any other ideas on what to do?

When that happens, do the 3,000 rpm in neutral procedure.

The symptoms suggest you got a lot of loose carbon in there.

Oh.. take it out for an italian tuneup.

That is the price you pay for an ad hoc decarbon job that does not involve removing the entire plenum and cleaning it in a solvent tank.

If Dieselkleen dislodged any carbon in the combustion chamber (possibility) same thing.

There is a thread in the Tech Folder on troubleshooting a "no power" condition. That might help.

Hey ---

I have given you the same instructions 3 times.

Without going into a 500 word post detailing why what you are suggesting is not likely to work --- and explaining to you things like what is an intake / exhaust valve.

If you want that, it is consulting under my regular rates.

If you don't know what intake/exhaust valves are, it is time to take this issue to a qualified Ford Technician.
