I was messing around with my newly aquired highboy, getting some interior lights etc working. It has a push/pull type switched mounted at the bottom of the dash and the wires go into a harness, the harness also goes to this switch mounted on top of the lower steering column. In the first pic just reference the brake pedal to get an idea of where this is. Its spring loaded. The first pic is its natural position. In the second picture I am compressing the switch/spring. It doesn't seem to do anything that I can see. Maybe I'm over looking something simple but has anyone see anything like this before?
Ah, thanks! This is the first pre-78 auto I have really messed with and I think the 78/79 might be different. Looks like I have a mess to clean up. I guess the push/pull type switch is for back up lights but that doesn't work either. I also have nothing that would actuate this switch. The engine will also crank in any gear. Fun fun!

There should be a little "nub" sticking up to activate the switch to the different positions when you move the gear selector. When working properly it should only start in park and neutral.
I think this version NSS is quite a bit cheaper than the one that mounts to the transmission. Very easy to adjust this version.
Gotchya. I'm guessing undoing this custom wiring is gonna be more work than just fixing it correctly! My dad has a wrecked 1970 F-100 auto, I'm betting it has this same part ("the nub") I can steal.
