Hi people,
My name is Theo and i live in the Netherlands. I have purchased a model 2004 Excursion, make 8 2003 PSD Eddie Bauwer.
I am coming to the USA in november to ride it from Phoenix to San Francisco during a short inserted vacation. I read this forum quite a while and became real enthousiast about the Excursion. Now i am driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee, v8 4.7 HO Overland.
What i wanted to ask.
What should i do or buy now a stay in America for some days. It wil be difficult from me from Europa purchase "thinks" in the Usa. The X is not common in Holland and I don't know of the dealers here know the car and can give me advise, or have the right parts.
What is important about the date sept 29 2003 for the 6.0 PSD ? What version diesel i have in my model 2004 what was build in 2003 august?
It has had all the recalls.
153000 Miles. Should i buy a accessory drive belt? and at least one of all the filters.
I am realy looking forwarth to see, ride and get the car, and also to visit your country.
So i would be pleased by every hint, advise warning ect.
I'll give you a bump so some 6.0 liter guys can help........I have a 7.3L it has it's own problems...........as for general Excursion issues.......check the springs and ball joints ....make sure the springs are not sagged down and hitting the bump stops........if you are in the southwest you should take it to Caryt's shop to get the suspension fixed before you ship it back. Have fun and welcome to the US ! Home
As said above look at the balljoints. i would also look at all the bushings (swaybar, swaybar endlinks, leafsprings)on the front end. i am about to do my body bushings.
i would go and do the egr delete. Put in some studs. Check the oil cooler, HPOP and injectors.
I have done an external Trans filter and a coolant filter. Just some precautionary things i have done lately. I am tempted to get a FASS or something similar.
I would find a place Holland that works on Diesel vehicles and hopefully knows the 6.0 power stoke engine. The very most important thing about the 6.0 diesel is maintenance...you can not get behind on the maintenance or you will start spending alot of money to have it fixed. Deleting the EGR before you go back to Holland could be a plus and make sure you visit the 6.0 forum on this site to learn more about youur Excursion. I would make sure to get the parts that will be hard to get in Holland as brakes, air-fuel-oil filters, belts, ball joints and anything else you would want. Make sure to visit WilliamX, as I believe he would treat care of you and you would have a wonderful time in Vegas. Enjoy America
We would love to visit Vegas and the grand canion. If you could look to the car would be very nice. I could do some shopping and send it to Holland or take it with the car on the boot.
Just give me some respons of the car please. I bought it from ebay, and did it in confidence. I called Pete, and it seemes to be all right.
Good freakin' grief!!! You bought an early build 6.0L truck from a different country, sight unseen, without a third party inspection and from a private seller who can't even spell?!? Are you flippin' crazy!?!

Yes, it is a little bit risky. From what i did read here i believed it was an "better" perfected PSD. But what is your impression from the car?
Something else? What more modifications have to be maked before the Diabolo upgrade has impact? Or doesn't it harms a stock X.
grins, maybe i realy am flippin' crazy, but I fell in love with that car, and I have a good feeling.
September 29th 2003 was the cut off date for the 2003 engines and the start of the 2004 engines. Some early '04 excursions and super duties have carryover 2003 engines. Some major chnages were made to the '04 and '04.5 engine that made all the difference as far as performance, maintenance, and longevity are concerned. So having an '04 or '04.5 engine is to your advantage unless you're a big fan of the 2003's turbo whistle.
With all due respect, I have been scammed on ebay before, and I'm having a hard time having this pass the sniff test. I might suggest you do a google search for a diesel shop in Phoenix, and call and make an appointment with them. Have the current owner take it in there, have them look over it well, verify the VIN, etc. I'd suggest you do this prior to sending any money at all. I'd just hate to see you lose $16K on this transaction.

So if I understand it right: I have a model 2004 X with a 2003 engine. The make was 8-2003.
You got me a little bit frightened. I orderd an inspection of the car through "Inspect my ride". I let you the result know. but de seller says:
THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR ARE IN PERFECT SHAPE. THIS SUV HAS A PERFECT RIDE AND DRIVE WIT NO ISSUES AT ALL. JUST HAD THIS SUV SAFETY CHECKED AT LOCAL NEW CAR DEALERSHIP EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT GOOD
Now I will have a third party opinion also.
I spend almost all my time reading this forum. Thank you guys for you input
in accordance with the vehicle inspection its has a vehicle score of 88.
Exterior POOR
Interior and elctronics VERY GOOD
Mechanical related VERY GOOD
Road test VERY GOOD
I am reassured! BUT ????????????????
Is there realy that much trouble with the PSD 6.0 from the years 2003 and 2004? It seemes like every engine is bad? I talked with a dealer who said:
"we do not buy, sell or trade any 2003 or 2004 Ford Power stroke 6.0L diesel engines. The 03 and 04 were the first generation 6.0L engines and they are famous for engine problmes. We see those all the times in the auciton in houston. The problem with 2003 and 2004 is that we can not sell them no matter what. "
