So I recently sold my 2005 F-350 and picked up a 1999 F-350. Anyways, the 99 I got is lifted fairly high and and has alot of slop in the steering. I have read alot of posts on this site and some other sites, all saying that installation of a read-head steering box will fix the slop in the steering. However, call me a skeptic, but the correction amount needed to counter the slop in the steering is between a 1/4 to a 1/2 turn of the wheel, so is the read-head box really going to fix that much slop? The other components in the front are new (steering arms, pitman, ball joints, tie rods, etc.). I guess I am debating how to best use my money. Am I better to do a dual steering shock cross over steering or do a read-head? Is there someone that has done either of these two that can chime in and give me your experience? I just know I need to do something to fix the slop in the steering. Any input is appreciated. Thanks much!

Its probably the rag joint coupler on the shaft. Its a common issue. I had the exact same symptoms as you until I changed to a universal joint type shaft from Borgeson. It was pretty expensive to buy at $280 but the steering wander is gone and steering control is great.
