Steering shaft options
my steering on my 76 highboy is aweful. Its about impossible to drive on the road with the all play in the shaft. Ive seen JBG has some repair parts such as the u-joint and the rag joint. Is it easier it do this or dish out the money for an all new shaft? Is there any other options that im not aware of? Thanks

Does it have Manual Steering or the Power Assist?? These are Notorious for a lot of play in the steering...but it could be compounded by wear in several spots...worn Manual steering gear..worn u-joints in steering shaft (No Rag Joints were used on a Highboy)..worn bell and blocks (Not sure the correct term for this..it's on the end that hooks to the gear box)...play in tie rods..as well as if it's the Power Assist...it has to have a little play just for it to work...not a lot..but a little.

It has power assist. I dont mind some play, every truck i drive has play in the steering. But i was thinking about the box itself having some play. I can see the play in the ujoint but im not sure how much play it would take out by just fixing just the u joint
