intake cleaning

Any body ever pulled the intake manifold off and had them cleaned to remove carbon buildup? Looking into it to try to cure my stumble issues. was told ....pull and clean throttle body.....pull intake and have it vatted to clean carbon. been running chevron gas ....would buildup cause problem? truck has 200000 miles on clock, still in good shape for its age. probably re-do injectors while there as well....thanks guys

With that mileage, I'd do a compression check and post back here with the numbers so we can all see what's going on. You might just have leaky valve stem seals and it's causing valve issues.

Art, will do....the fellow thats gonna do the work does the cable line trucks for the area here , they run f-450's with v-10's that run all day at idle. how hard would it be to check the valve stem seals while he's in there? will have him check the compression as well. as a side note i filled up yesterday with a half tank of premium chevron (found out they dont ad ethenol to the premium) and seemed to pick up a few more miles on the overhead computer.....will double check the mileage when i fill up next and report back...am trying to get with mike on some injectors he has to swap mine out as well....thanks

Get it hot and open up the air box. Rev the engine and spray the garden hose sprayer right into the air stream. Keep you hand on the throttle and bog it slightly a few times with the spray but avoid stalling it. The steam created will do wonders to clean up the carbon deposits. Idiots will tell you you will hydrolock it. They used a fire hose. Just ease up as it starts to bog.

That's a PERFECT way to ruin your catalytic converter and O2 sensors.

That method was OK back in the day with carbs, and even then, you're asking for trouble.

But on modern fuel injected vehicles, using decent gasoline, and detergent oils, that's a recipe for DISASTER.

If you take a big sledge hammer and beat on the intake manifold that will get the carbon loose too.

On a serious note I would pull the TB and look down into the intake as far as you can try to see how much carbon is built up. If the intake manifold is really carboned up its going to take quite a while to soak and even then soaking may not remove it all. Honestly I suspect your issue is somewhere other than carbon buildup on the intake manifold. As for the Injector O-rings, I've never tried to buy them but I'd bet they can cross referenced to a stock o-ring.
