Tire and gear ques.

Quick question: I want to go from 235/75/15's with 3.08 gears to about a 31 to 33 inch tire with 3.55's (since a friend will sell them to me cheap.) Will the 3.55's be enough gear change to compensate for the increase in tire size if I go even to the 33's. I'm not going with a real wide tire, just like a 9.50 or 10.50, so will tires not be that heavy to cost me much in power?

With 33s and a 3.55, you'll have about the same overall as with your 29s and 3.08. That's not to say it'll be good. IMHO 3.08 is way too tall a ratio for a truck. I'd seriously consider running 4.10s with 33" tires if it were mine, that would be about equivalent to 3.55s with the stock tires.

If you go with the 31" tires and 3.55s, that would be about uquivalent to running 3.31 gears with the stock tires. That should prove a lot more satisfactory.

Tire and gear ques.

My truck had 3.08 gears and 235/75/15's when I bought it. The very first thing that I did was put 30X9.5X15 on AR Outlaw II on. I did this the same day I bought the truck, actually I did it on the way home for the dealership, the stock tires never even saw my driveway. The I put on 31X10.5X15's still with stock gears. I thought that the truck was under powered before I did this. With 31's it became guttless as hell. So I got the truck re geared to 4.10's with a detriot locker out back. I ran the 31's for a little bit then put 33X12.5X15 on. With the 31's I could start out in 2nd gear not a problem and had tons of power. With the 33 I still have quite a bit more power than stock, but once I wear my 33's out I am going to go back down to either 32's or 31's. So I can get some power back.

If I were you I would go with 3.73's. That way you can go with either 31's or 33's without a problem. If pull anything over 2,000lbs go with 4.10's. Hope this helps Paul
