Just lately I've noticed the ac isnt as cold as it was.Tonight I checked......
1 refrigerant. Ok and full.
2 condenser clean
3 controls all work
4 clutch fan working
5 Compressor cycling
The low pressure line in cool not cold.High pressure line is hot as is the condenser.
It does have rear air and the temp is the same. Has me a bit boggled. Any ideas.
Thanks Dom
Did you ever find your fix on this? Mine seems to be doing the same thing. On mine, the front air seems to get a little colder when the rear air is turned on. The system used to freeze you out last year.........not so much now. I have also started hearing an intermitent hissing noise coming from the rear A/C. Not a gas leak into the air sound. More like when a valve is slightly opened and gas starts flowing into a metal line kind of sound.
I had the same problem on my 04, took it to my local shop and they did a complete vacuum of the system, put in all new freon and oil, no parts. They said the freon wears out just like anything else. I thought they were feeding me a line but it's ice cold again.
The ac system in your truck will operate the same as the one in your house and cycle on and then off to continuously adjust to the temperature you have set for your truck the blend door works constantly to help maintain the temperature at a constant. There can be two causes for your system to not function properly, 1 is a low freon level in the system and the other could be too much freon in the system. I have never heard of freon "wearing out" as it is a gas and the only way for it to stop functioning properly is for it to become contaminated or to lose it's charge. The correct way to do a repair is to have the gages and know how to read and use them. The way most of the people do it is to get a charge kit from a parts store and charge the system, a half a can at a time and use a thermometer in the ac vent to check the air temp and if you get something between 36 and 40 degrees you should be fine.
Mel. Thanks for the post.I tried three of the cheapy parts store gauges I had in the toolbox and all three read freon level to be right on.Any thought on thoughts on that?
If you have verification from different sets of gages, even the cheapies, it should be right and there has to be another problem. Perhaps some sort of contaminant is in the system. Have you had the system serviced by a shop? If so, is there any chance the machine they used had a residual amount of R-12 in it? There is something in the R-12's chemistry that causes it to gel when mixed with R-134. I've seen it when people try to DIY convert from R-12 to R-134. It makes a real mess of the system.
I just got the Navi this spring so previous history is unknown. But it was working great all summer. Then in September the air just wasnt as cold anymore but it doesnt seem to be getting any worse. I miss it and the dogs realy miss it but my wife doesnt mind
Well I found my problem. While installing new mounts on my air suspension compressor I neglected to reconnect the wires to the low freon sensor and therefor the a/c compressor would not engage. I hope your problem turns out to be that simple.
