tire selection for 2002 F-250 7.3L

Need help with selecting tires. I need a tire that will work well on-off road. I have a long driveway that has a steep grade (about 8%) on it. Where I live we get some snow in the winter ( 26 inches last winter in two storms). So I need a tire that will dig in and get me up that grade. I am looking at the duratrac, discoverer stt, and general grabber A/T. The bfg A/Ts didnt get the job done, and tire wear is not very good at all. Year and a half and they are down to 5/32nd. Also need to know, 235/85/16 or 265/75/16.

We have had nothing but good luck with the duratracs. The last 5-6 sets of BFGs we haven't had any luck with at all!!! Coming apart, pre-mature wear (gone at 9k!), just balance out bad, etc. I am very reluctant to sell anyone any BFG ATs. I like the Hankook RF10s, but not very agressive. I really like the STT as well, Have had a few that took alot of weight and didnt roadforce well balancing, but overall a good tire. I dont sell many at all, as I dont caryy many Coopers. And the General Grabber AT2, Im not fond of either. Have only sold 2 sets, and about 10k on a superduty and they were junk. Just flat wore out and rocks ate them up. With all that said, We are in the flinthills in Kansas, and rocks eat tires bad if you are on any gravel at all. If any of that helps you out.

My vote is for the Duratracs

I'm leaning heavily toward the duratracs. All the reviews have been good with a few exceptions. Any one complain off handling problems with the duratracs? Thanks for the info.

i have duratracs, got them over the summer awesome off road quiet on road...i have heard some complaints of the tires feeling soft but I have zero problems with the way the tires handle even when towing...as for size it looks like you do some snow driving so i would go 235s narrower tires provide better traction in snow

Thanks for the input. I have read alot of reviews where the big complaint was the sidewall is too soft and that they are squirmy at highway speeds. My wife will be driving this truck so I don't want a squirmy tire. I had that problem with a set of bridgestone duelers. They were terrible. Very squirmy, only got about 20000 miles, and snow traction was no good. Took them back and had them replaced with bfg rugged trails. They were a decent tire, good wear, but in the snow not as good as I want, but better than the duelers believe it or not.

I replaced my last set of BFG's with Kumho A/T KL78's. Hands down they have outperformed the BFG's in every way imaginable. I currently have over 40K miles on these tires now. The best part is they were much cheaper than the BFG's.

The only issue is recently I had some kind of alignment problem. Two of the tires are cupped, but it's no fault of the tires. Unfortunately the expected life I was going to get out of them won't be reached. I was on target for well over 50K miles, but now it might be somewhere between 45-50K miles.
