Turbo Shaft Question

I was changing my glow plugs last night, and since the turbo was right there decided to see if the shaft had any play. It does not move at all axially, but doesmove a little "up and down". Is this normal? Do these turbos run with an oil bearing, and that's why there is a little play?

Yes, a little up and down is ok as long as it's not contacting the housing. No in/out play should be noticed..Oil will take up some of the play

Thanks.

When changing glow plugs, before pulling them I tried to sop up what oil I could with paper towel, and then placed the socket over them and removed, and kept doing that until the socket no longer had much oil on it when I took it off....a slow process getting the residual oil away from the GP.

I'm not sure if any really went into the cylnder, but I wouldn't think so. Is it common to get too much oil in the cylinder when changing GP's, or more when removing injectors?

Info on the turbo shaft is correct.

As for the oil when removing glow plugs is usually not an issue. But it is an issue doing injectors. I usually don't worry about the oil around the GP's when removing them.

I was sure that was right, I got that from you Tim! I asked it a while ago and you were nice enough to answer me. Also, good to see you around.
