DP Tuner High Idle

I'm finally done drooling. I'm getting my butt in gear and getting a DP Tuner within the next few weeks. I'm going to be getting a high idle on mine, but the question is which one? DP offers multiple RPMs for the high idle. I don't know which one I should get. My truck is straightpiped and loud. I have neighbors and sometimes have to leave at 3AM in the winter, so I don't want it to be too loud.

If you are using it for warm up I personally prefer the 1000-1100 rpm range. I don't really like my cold motor sitting at 1300 rpm, but that is just me.

I have the 1100RPM high idle and live in a neighborhood. It's good enough but not obnoxious.

I have 1200 rpm. 1100 rpm is too low, and 1300 rpm is too high.

If all is working right our trucks already have an automatic high idle for warm up. Why use a high idle tune for warm up?

I've removed my EBPV and installed a non EBPV turbo pedestal. So I now must artificially increase idle for various reasons. Winter warm-up is one, running the AC while parked is another.

I was only referring to warm up. Even without an EBPV actuator the PCM will still call for high idle when it is cold enough. I have a Non-EBPV pedestal and Non-EBPV exhaust housing and my high idle still works.

High idle tune is good for AC while idling, jump starting another vehicle, running a winch or any other high current electrics. I have a high idle tune for those reasons. I just don't use it for warm up.

Ah, you may be right on the warm-up. As winter approaches, I'll have to pay attention to see if she idles higher at start up.

1200 hi idle here to & I like it. Like Robin said, my truck idles up by itself when its cold. I use mine mainly for A/C, or sometimes charging up the camper battery when we are boondocking.

It goes up after a bit and if you hit the brake pedal it goes down. HOWEVER, the high idle can be set higher than what the PCM calls for. I think it has something to do with wet stacking.

I never even knew it would high idle when is cold because I've never had a winter with this truck yet. I still might get the 1200 high idle just so I can control if I ever do add a winch (which is in my plans).

good idea.. I've used the hi idle a good bit.. As for worrying about the noise.. your neighbors are going to "LOVE" you.. My truck is straightpiped too.. When its warming up when cold, it sounds like a jet engine..

Here a video I found to give you an idea.. This doesn't seem like the idle kicked up though, but the EBPV did close..

I agree on this, in the cold it will go to high idle on its own. Get the idle rpm you want on the tuner as you want it to run a/c, accessories, etc without regard to winter idle. I'm using 1200 or 1300 rpm myself, can't remember which one.
