Replacing Power Steering Pump?
Hey all,
I just got back from getting my 97 expedition EB inspected and it failed due to a power steering pump leak. Mechanic said the P/S pump needed to be replaced to the tune of $679!!!!!
The part from Ford is $150 so at $85/hr for work, they're estimating 5 hours of work?
How tough a job is this, and does anyone have a link to the procedure?
Thanks!
Russell

Ha!
I looked through my Chiltons manual and it appears to be pretty straightforward. They advise just removing the drive belt, then the low pressure and high pressure hoses, finally removing the 4 bolts holding the pump to the block. No need to remove the pulley, fan shroud, etc. Seems like a pretty easy replacement.
Of course, I'm sure I'll run into some sort of snag

Yeah,
My biggest concern was just if there were some special tools needed, or if I had to completely dis-assemble the front end. But if the chilton's manual is correct, it's fairly straight forward.
I took a look under the truck yesterday and the only thing that bothers me a bit is that I didn't even see the mounting bolts? Hopefully they're not hidden behind the pulley or something like that. I need to find an exploded parts view to find the location of the connecting bolts.
