After replacing the bearings in the steering column, and the shift collar, I magically have no brake lights. Blinkers are good, Hazards are fully functional.
No brake lights.
I have 12v at the switch, the switch itself appears ok, and if I jump the wires at the switch, I have no brake lights still, but the trailer brake unit lights up. I suspect it has it's own ground, so that doesn't really help at all.
I must have goofed something up near the turn signal switch, but I can't find a diagram that's any help. If the brake switch is upstream of the hazard switch, why do the hazards work?
Check the red wire with a black trace. This goes from the brake light switch to the turn signal switch. Pay particular attention to the column connector (curved plastic connector). Make sure you have a good connection between the two wires at the connector.
The brake light switch is after the hazard switch.
I just had the same exact issue on my 76. Solved it with a new blinker switch.....$68.00!!
I had power to the brake switch and out of it, just nothing after the blinker switch. I also tested the red with a black tracer and found weak voltage, not sure exactly how weak, just dim on my test light. I didn't get a brake light signal anywhere.
Might be connections, I figgered it was thirty four years old, might as well replace it while the parts are still being made. Good luck.
P.S. my trailer brake unit lit up also, it gets its signal before the blinker switch. Mine also failed after having the column apart to work on the signal cancel cam.
I have th esame problem, when i turn the right blinker on if i push it too hard up everything goes out, so i have to wiggle it and magically i fix it.. guess ill be looking into a new blinker switch also

You might be able to get away with just replacing the turn signal cancel cam, about $18.00. I learned the one to get is the borg warner (I think). That is........if your brake lights are functional.
You may also be able to fix it by tightening the rivet-washer thing that holds the signal cancel cam in place, it might have gotten loose. Hope this helps.
Red wire with black tracer. Roger that.
In somewhat related news, the dimmer switch magically started working again, and I figured out why the radio quit working. Seems the fuse holder has rotted in half. Never seen that one before.
