I have a 93 ford 1 ton with a 460 that run's good but i can't set the timming with the spout conn. un pluged, it run's rough and doesn't won't to idle'but when you plug it in it run's fine. I've hooked my scanner up and run test's but everthing shows to be working and there is no code's
Not trying to be a smart-@$$, but if the truck runs fine, why are you wanting to adjust the timing? Is/was there another problem with the truck?
In addition to asking here, you might also want to ask down in the "big block" forum. Guys down there don't seem to make it up here a lot... or at least they don't post here much.
Sounds like the timing is retarded too much. Removing the SPOUT will reduce the idle speed, but the engine should continue to run.
Try this: loosen the dist. hold down clamp slightly while the engine is running. Turn the dist. to advance the timing just enough to increase the engine speed slightly, then tighten the clamp.
Now remove the SPOUT and set the timing to spec. or whatever turns you on. Re-install SPOUT and all should be well.
I have the dist. adv. now. thats how it running, but still when you un plug the spout cont. it goes nut's. I can get by with it but would like to fix it right. thank,s for the reply.:
