cel test help
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to test the CEL on my 1996
Ranger crew cab with 2.3L engine? It does not come on with the key in the
on position as all the other warning ligths do. Also what kind on bulb would it use, I think it's a number 194.
Thanks in advance
Frank

As an aside, most folks replace ALL of the instrument panel lamps once in there, as most think it's a pia to do, others think it's not too bad a job.
Not certain on the lamp number, maybe check the owners manual or Dealer parts dept beforehand.
It is said that there are LED replacement instrument lamps available now, but I don't know how expensive they are, nor how well they would work with the the panel lamp dimmer .
Of course that wouldn't be a problem with the CEL, as it isn't on the instrument panel dimmer circuit.
If we don't run our instrument panel lamps at full brightness, they'll last a lot longer.
More thoughts for consideration, let us know how the replacement goes.
Thanks for the info guys, I've had the truck for 4 years and it used
to come on, but I'm not sure how long ago it quit coming on.
The truck passes emissions and I'm pretty sure thats one of the things they check here in Washington state.
