The cost of a new cover is the reason I will be painting my dash! Can not see paying that much unless it is a show truck, I think the painted dash looks real good!

for 8 hun. those dash covers better cook and clean and give me happy endings! And I agree a painted to match dash looks way better then a dash pad.

I have to agree. I reluctantly removed the old, cracked dashpad from my '66 recently and was pleasantly surprised at how nice the painted dash was underneath.

Seriously, dude KNOWS dash pads are worth $800 + ...and only offers you $50?!? I hope you had salt in your shotgun...

I agree with All the above comments and if the guy knows replacement cost $800; he's stone to think he can get one for $50 in great shape.
Hang on to it and one day someone you know might want to buy it at a reasonable price or use it for horse trade material. Or you might build a show truck that requires a padded dash.
Metal looks ten times better; especially painted and wet sanded.

I thought Bill (ND) posted a place in Cali that would re-cover the pad for around 400

You can recover it yourself, it only cost me about twenty bucks. . I wrote a article for true blue trucks about how to do it. Its fairly easy to do. I used a heated scraper blande between the metal and dash.the next step was to fill in the cracks with silicone . I then sprayed the dash cover with 3 m uphostery glue and laid a new piece of vinyl over it. I used clothes pins to hold it down until it dried. Its best to use vinyl that is stretchy instead of the thicker ,stiffer vinyl. Just trim and put back in. It does pretty good. I put mine in about 4 years ago and it still looks like it did. Check my pictures out to see it.

This is my plan as well. I like the look of the padded dash, but since I'm going with blue interior, recovering was my only option, so I figured it just makes sense to keep the old pad rather than to replace it. It's unfortunate that they priced it so high. It can't be tied to cost to manufacture. Dennis Carpenter had it for 500 last I looked, but that's still too high since I'm used to Mustang prices. You can buy a reproduction for 100, good reproduction for 150 and Ford tooling for 300. Pick a color too...

Theres a big difference though between the trucks and Mustangs...the cars were a ton more popular and sold alot more thus higher demand and a lower price. They could still break even and beyond due to the higher demand. Im not sure if the cars pads were glue on like the trucks were, but that could also be a factor in the difference as well...

Just to add; does you dash pad have the chrome trim wrap around across the front portion that clips thru and into your metal dash?
Hard item to find in salavage yards these day's.
