Does anyone else experience this problem with the newer Super Duties. All my doors are closed but the dome light reamains on as well as the rear cab light. The door ajar light in the guage panel is on as well. The lights will go off after I reach about 5 mph and come back on when I slow to a stop. The light not going off is epecially anoying when I'm trying to back-up at night when its real dark. I live in a rural area, so when I try to back-up using the backup lights there is a reflection from the interior dome light on the rear window and I can't see a thing.
Does anyone else have this problem? How did you fix it?
I HAVE heard of bizzare stuff like this happening when an odd bulb burns out somewhere and starts all kinds of gremlins like that, or a periodically shorting fuse........(??!)
Had a '91 F150 with a signal light out. If I had the cruise control on on the highway, the cruise control would shut off if I hit the left signal light (side where the bulb was burned out)
That one scrambled my brain for a while until I checked the turn signal bulb.
What about the door switch...faulty? bad ground?defective switch?bad connection on one of the wires? wire chaffing of the switch wires, i.e. unintentional grounding or connection therefore?
Try pulling the switch out of its seat and "bypassing it" and see if it stops the behavior. You'd only need to figure out if the door switch "closes" the circuit, or opens the circuit when the door is closed. Then, either "unplug the switch, or bridge over it and see if it changes.
Can't be anything "deeper" than that I wouldn't think.
Common problem on the Super Dutys. Spray WD-40 up into the door latch assembly, this will free the switch that activates the lights. It will make a mess on your door, so be prepared to wash your truck afterwards. This will fix the problem 99% of the time. In some cases you may have to remove the door liner and replace the switch.
When my 2002 F250 was doing stange things like that and my 4wd dash lights would not come on I took it to the dealer and there was a TSB on reprogramming the HEC module they did that and have not had any problems sense. Just a thought.
