1987 was for the 5 speed.
E4OD was first available in the 1989 model year although its possible some late 88s might have it. 1988 would most likely have a C6 if its automatic. Look for the overdrive cancel switch and the "(D)" instead of "D" symbol in the shift quadrant.
'89 models had them first, but pretty much anything built in the second half of '88 would be considered an '89 model. Build date should be on the sticker on the driver-side door jamb on the reg-cab and ext-cab trucks, no idea where the sticker it is on a 4-door tho.
must have been an option then, because my 87 came with a 4spd.
Correct. For 1987 the 5 speed was the optional transmission.
So your options for that year were either a 4 or 5 speed manual or the 3 speed auto.
After 1989, the C6 was supposedly still an option by special order and many fleet vehicles have them. Not sure if the T19 was still available after 1987.
