I just purchased what I refer to as an "old school" F350 Crew cab 4x4 long bed. Didnt know alot about the history of the truck other than the fact it looked good and has 140k miles. Started going through the truck with an engine coolant flush, oil change, new plugs, wires, cap/rotor, injector cleaning. Have ordered new suspension/steering bushings. Question is, I get a clicking noise in the engine that is relative to rpm. It is there for about 2 or three minutes then goes away for 10 minutes or so and then returns. Is it worn lifters? Someone please point me in the right direction. Thanks.
Being that it comes and goes, check oil pressure when clicking bigins. If all is good with that, than the other option is that the lifters are sticking. Heres an old time remedy that always worked for me. Add a quart of tranny fluid to your motor oil, but dont over fill. Let the truck warm up, and run it. If stuck lifters are the case, than this should quiet them down and loosen them up. Watch your oil guage during clicking and see if pressure goes up and down, if so than you may need a new oil pump.
