Just wanted to give you guys a little update on the '77, mainly because I'm just so excited about it. I'm putting a '77 supercab onto an '89 F350 frame with the 7.3. I had to lengthen the frame 19" using a scrap F450 frame section, and then build some body mounts for the new body. The truck will be painted black, its just in primer now. Enough typing, heres some pics
Heres a shot of the frame after being extended and painted
Sprayedthe whole interior with bed liner mixed with rubber crumb, I'm really happy with how it turned out, it has a nice texture
And a shot of the body on the frame
The fenders on there temporarily
And a shot from today, I test fitted the inner fenders on
Did you do anything to strengthen the frame insert? If not, you might want to go back and do that. That vintage frame has a tendency to crack in that area without being welded on. I just had to put a brace in mine. A z cut is one of the proven ways to extend the frame. A diamond insert works well too.
Not trying to fault anything, just thinking of your safety.
The 450 frame was a double frame of sorts, where it had a 1/4" "L" shaped piece that went over the top of it. After I butt welded the new and old sections, I made that extend 6" over that seam on both sides and welded it on. I put diamond plates on the inside as well over all four joints. Theres no way that section of the frame is going anywhere
