I changed the oil on my f68 (flathead V8) and the oil filter I took out was much longer than the one I got at the parts store. The oil filter I took out was 7" long while the one I got was 5". My first question is, is it all right to put the new one in? If not anybody know the part # of the longer filter?
Thanks for the reply. Now I am confused though as the oil filter I got was a wix 51006 and I though Wix and Napa where the same as far as part numbers go. Wix adding a number to the front of the part number.
Well I went out and checked some of the engines I have collected and I found 3 that still had the canisters and one that still had a bit of a decal on it but it wasn't a Ford decal and then I found a filter in another one that was a Hastings and it was a 303A but when I crossed it I came up with the napa 1006. But the Hastings filter was 7.5" tall. I finally found a filter that had a number on it and it was actually a Chryco and it took a while to find a site that would cross the number but I finally came up with a wix number and it is 51503. When I checked the specs it is 8" tall and has the same diameter and it has a 10 micron filter as appossed to the 51006 which has a 30 micron filter. So any ways I hope the search is over.
Interesting... I'll have to measure my canister but I am pretty sure an 8" won't fit in it. 10 micron would be better for sure. I wonder who makes the Hastings filter, I don't think they mfr them.
