Does anyone else have a problem with stink bugs? They are a nasty little creature. They're getting into my house all of a sudden. I had to do some research on them. I didn't know anything about them. They are brown or green and shaped like a shield. They spray a nasty odor when threatened. They are hard as hell to kill. I've been spraying them with Raid and it takes a few minutes for them to die. They seem to be getting in thru the window a/c's. I'm afraid of what I'll find when I pull them for the winter, so I'll be spraying them for a couple of days first. The wife and kids hate them. I'm not too crazy about the darn thing either!!
Heard this this morning. Mix up a solution of borax, like the twenty mule team borax, mix it so heavy that there will be un-disolved crystals. Squirt in a little Dawn dish soap and spray away. It's supposed to kill the bug and It's larvae and continue killing with residual. Best, CB
The Borax is good for many things including Roaches and Ants. BUT it works slow. Don't expect to see them dying just minutes after using it. That's the problem with my wife, she wants to see the bugs dropping like flies, so she drowns them and wastes a lot of poison.
The Dawn mixed with water and Borax probably works faster since it gets the solution into their breathing holes. They drown. the borax stays behind when it dries, so it keeps killing.
The way it works is that the bugs lick their feet to clean them. This gets borax crystals into their gut where it acts like glass and cuts them up from the inside. Slow but satisfying revenge.
Dry borax crystals also work as a powder "sprinkle". Also read Diatomecious earth works and even talc powder(Baby powder with talc)
Used to find a few, but haven't seen any this year. Only noticed the stink when I would squash them. They're putting in sewers around the neighborhood this year and cutting down trees that are in the way, so my new never-seen-before bug this year was wood-wasps.
Seeing more of them recently out here in Pittsburgh as well. Haven't had to do anything just yet but the local news is reporting that they're becoming a larger problem.
I pulled my kids window a/c's out today. Took them down to the garage, put them in a big garbage bag and sprayed them real good with raid, then closed up the bag. I came back 30 minutes later. Each bag had quite a few stink bugs in them. I have 2 more a/c's to remove but that will be tomorrow. The borax solution sounds interesting. I'll look into that. Thanks for all the input
they said on the radio a few months ago this was gonna be a bad year for stink bugs. i have seem more this year than i think i have seen in my 54 years.
many many in cars and trucks, but luckily none in the house.... yet.
Borax does work fairly well. One caution if you decide to use diotomaceous earth, don't inhale the powder or use in places where it can get stirred up, especially if ppl in the house already have lung problems. DE can act like asbestos in your lungs and cause damage. Wife works at pet store, and says you can get DE in the aquarium filter section, usually.
