My 1979 F140 4x4 with a factory 300 6cy 4sp is leaking a pretty good amount of oil . It's comming from where the engine and the tranmission connect, up where the oil pan and the transmission meet. I believe this is the rea main seal ?
From what I have read one can leave the engine in the truck but must remove the transmission and transfer case along with drivelines front and rear. Am I correct? Does anyone know the time frame/hours for this kind of a job?
My transfer cae has had a small leak from the front around the shift rods, so if I have to pull the t-case I might as well replace the seals, right ? Is it worth changing all the gaskets in the t-case since it is out of the truck, that is if I have to pull it? Is a gasket set very much? thanks oem78
You would be correct with the rear main leaking, although it can be deceiving in some ways.... you have to be sure thats exactly where its coming from, other parts could leak oil into that area and it could look like that seal is leaking. As far as the transfer case and other parts that are removed in the process.... clean em up, make em look good and replace serviceable parts so you don't have to pull that stuff down again!
