Thumbs up The new Excursion Driver!

Had a nice day with my youngest daughter who has her learners permit, she wants to get a Ford F150 as her first vehicle (wiping away the tear from my eye). I figured if she can drive the Excursion then she can drive a pick up.

Well up to now her driving has been primarily a mini van or a Jetta, so the moment of truth. We departed to a abandoned roadway parallel to a one mile rail track, and a large empty parking lot, I had her make some sudden stops and avoidance maneuvers, parking head on, backing in, parallel, all went well once she realized the size and stopping requirements for a vehicle 2-3X the size of what she was used to.

We proceeded onto the back winding curving, washboard roads around one of the largest lakes in the state, Lake Hopatcong on a Sunday afternoon. I have to admit I was a little scared for Blue, but she did just fine navigating 17 plus miles around the narrow roads with speeds around 25-35 including the single lane tunnel railroad bridge on Mill Road with 9'6" clearance and just wide enough for a single vehicle.

And the bonus was I keep my cool the entire time, although I had to remind her of a few miles per hour over the speed limit woulds make all the difference in the world stopping Blue as compared to a smaller vehicle.

After a few more trips around back roads, it'll be time for the highway. Here are some pictures of the happy Excursion driver!

PS, we must have seen at least six other Excursions just driving around!
