My glow plug relay seems to click louder than any Ive heard before?
The truck doesnt start very well unless its plugged in.
How can i test my starting system and how hard is it to delete the relay and use a switch?
If it's the newer style gp controller fast clicking means you either have bad gp's or the controller itself is shot. Check the sticky at the top of the main page to find out which system you have and how to check them.
I didnt read the whole thing but I read a lot of it.
Something i didnt see mention of was .........
When I turn my key on the WTS light comes on for a second then goes out?
I can still hear the relay clicking?
I tested Gp's with a test light.
Ground to battery positive , key off.
Test light didnt light up.
I stuck the light in the GP plug wire and theres juice there?
You need to pull the heavy gauge wire off a glowplug, then one wire of the test light to a positive battery terminal and the other to the glowplug tip. If the light lights that glowplug is probably good. Repeat with the other seven. replace any that don`t light the test light.
if it starts clicking before 10 seconds then you have bad glow plugs as stated above. the faster it gets to the clicking the more bad plugs you have. the light goes out because its ready to start, but it clicks to cycle the glow plugs to help reduce white smoke on start-up. theres power to the gp controller, the key triggers the solenoid to make the finish connection.
easiest thing to do is pull your glow plugs and bench test them all. just hook the negative end of a battery to the case, positive to the tip and watch it glow. if it doesnt, its junk.
