The air pump robs the engine of 0 yes ZERO hp... some guys like taking it off just to "simplify" the engine... sometimes the pumps freeze up and new/refurbed pumps are expensive... Thus people take them off. You can actually take them apart and grease them up on the inside. Anyway I would say you have a decent setup for the exhaust... You might want to consider putting headers on, then 2.5in y-pipe, then 3in to muffler, then finish with 3in as well. can't imagine that 4in or bigger tail pipe is doing you any favors besides looking dumb with a 302... I could see it if you were running a PSD... Also if anyone gets confused what you are talking about... Just remember that we all love pictures!!!!!
Bigger exhaust without increasing air/fuel in will only hurt your motors performance and sound hokey. I would (if it were me) spend my money on better intake and , if you don't change anything inside the motor) a new 4bbl carb(not larger than 625 cfm) Why not larger than 625? Because a long time ago someone proved that a 350 cdi motor only uses approx. 320 cfm at full throttle so by using a huge carb. without a thumpier cam, strokin and boring, and placing a supercharger on it you will never use everything a larger carb will give you. It would in fact help you stop at every gas station between home and work. Good luck.
hrb.. you're new here so I won't jump on you too hard, but you're off base on this one and got come catching up to do on these trucks. The bottom line is the intake systems on these EFI trucks are not restrictive.. AT ALL, but the exhaust systems are a proverbial cork and anything that helps gasses get out the back end pays dividends.
intake manifold and 4bbl will be as soon as i can get it mechanicaly sounds and cosmeticaly sound, im still patching up the bed so ittl be a while, i just wanted to get an idea of how much it would cost to get me around 300 horses, and it seems like headers a dual plane manifold, a 4bbl and a better cam, possibley lifters will put me right around 300 horses, but now your talking around 900bucks and for a 15 year old, thats alot of money
