What started off as a anticipated quick brake job has turned into a bang your head against the wall and open your wallet wider project. As the vehicle is new to me the I didn't realize just how bad the frontend was/is. New tie rods, new rotors, and if I can get a frozen slide pin free, and the brakes on,the project will be complete. I see on here where heating the caliper mount may be my last and best resort. Any other suggestions on getting it out so I can get the bore cleaned and the pins re-lubed, I'll be back on the road. I really do not wish to beat my head into the wall any longer, I have a headache.
It happened to me when I got my truck a couple of year ago. I took it all apart, then brought the bracket to a local shop and they put it in a vice, heated it cherry red and started twisting the pin with vice grips. They all came out pretty easily with this method. I then went and bought new pins and lubed it up with never seize. Now I yearly pull it apart, clean and re lube with never seize.
One of mine was the same way. I tried everything to get it out with no luck. At that point, I ended up just replacing everything. I bought a re manufactured caliper with hardware from napa for like $60 & replaced everything. I figured the truck was almost 10 years old & if the pin was that bad then $60 wasn't a bad deal to start off with everything new. I did both front calipers & hopefully i'll be good for a while.
Well I guess if heat don't get er dun, she stays on the jack stands til I can get new caliper mounting bracket. Fingers and toes are crossed and wife is praying!
The caliper bracket is realy not very expensive. Knave bougt at least 3. I am thinking around $20. Not worth the time and effort to me.evenif you do get it out your bracket will be in questionable shape at best.
Mine came from Autozone or Oriely. One of them have a little better slide pin kit IMO forget which one though.
