Is there any way of telling which glow plugs I have by pulling one and looking? I bought this truck back in May and the seller told me it had new plugs but I don't want to get a nasty surprise in the middle of winter and discover I have substandard Plugs!
Thanks for the advice. Ive been reading through old threads about glow plugs and not liking what I have been hearing about autolites. I just want to make sure what I have so I can change them out while its still comfortable temps to work on a motor. Any links to where I can get Motorcraft or similar reliable glow plugs? My truck has already been converted to a manual setup.
RockAuto.com has the best deal on Motorcraft/Beru ZD1A Glow Plugs at this time.
You would be wise to check ... I had Bosch Glow Plugs in my '86, now it's out of the truck waiting for me to heal so I can pull the heads.
-Enjoy
fh : )_~
I thought Bosch would have been good! I will be sticking with the ZD1A,s no matter what. I just ordered them anyway. Even if the ones I have turn out to be the right ones it will be good to have a spare set.
Thats a real surprise to me. I thought Bosch were quality. Sorry to hear of your woes. Perhapps I will be joining you when I take out my first and discover its not a Motorcraft
It would be wise to place the piston at TDC on the cylinder you are removing the GP from ... this will prevent the tip from falling into the cylinder if it's swelled and breaks off, some have been successful at vacuuming them out then ... If they fall into the cylinder, you'll be pulling heads!
