Am installing my pyro gauge and probe. Everything's gong fine till after I drill the #R hole and tap threads using the 1/4 NPT tap. Get about 1/3 the way up the tap and reach for the probe. Holy Cow, that jam nut is huge!! Never gona fit in that hole. I eyeball measure it and its half inch accross at the threads. Lucky my, its Saturday, Isspro isn't open. Did I get the wrong jam nut? Its the R658S thermocouple. Any body know whats going on here? Thinking about running to NAPA to see if they have anything. Thanks in advance.
Im thinking its a 11/64 bit to drill the hole. Its been several years since I did mine. Let me look and see if I can find the install instructions. Found it
Because most tap wrenches wont fit in the tight space where the thermocouple is located, you may have to come up with some way to extend the reach of your tap. Shown here is a 1/4" NPT tap with it's 7/16" square drive. An 8 point 7/16" socket is used with an extension and slide bar handle. NOTE: We now include a 1/8"NPT threaded thermocouple will all complete gauge kits. If you purchase our 1/8"NPT tap a 11/32" square drive socket can be used to fit the square drive of the tap. Not all taps have the same size square drive on their end, so if you already have one, check it before you buy an 8 point socket to fit. Tip: You can tape the tap to the socket with electrical tape to hold it in place.
It looks like a reducing bushing attached to the fitting. Does the larger part come off? If it does, does the smaller part fit into the hole you tapped?

Jim,
Good eyes.....I think you're right! Hope he gets it hooked up okay now that there's a hole in that pipe!
Bingo... Had the 1/8 NPT. Ended up buying a 7/16 drill (new, didn't trust my old one) and the 1/4x18 NPT tap. Thanks to all the sharp eyes out there. Tried to just score the correct fitting, but the hole wasn't big enought for the probe. Guess I just assumed that this came with the 1/8 NPT. Got it all hooked up and working. Dang that egt climbs fast thanks to my DP tuner!!! Anyway thanks to everyone for helping. That sure is a big honkin hole the the exhaust...glad I was able to plug it.
