TPMS...relearn a lower pressure?

the factory says 80psi in the rears, but with oversized tires 80 is way too much. the owners manual tells you everything BUT how to turn off the tpms warning and "relearn" for example 60psi in the rear. anybody have a clue on this one?

My truck tires should be at 65psi. I can get away with 55psi depending on ambient temp. After reading many posts about this problem on this site, I don't think the TPMS module is programmable. Or at least no Ford tech. will do it because of liability. You just have to use the fob and relearn the computer with the tire position after rotating them. Best, CB

That's correct, there is no way it will be done. It gets old aft 4 weeks of acknowledging low tire pressure too. I dropped mine down to 60 and that's when it started. The consensus is about 62 is as low as you can go without setting them off.

Best bet is to try and get an aftermarket one, but that may be next to impossible as well.

Ford forces you to run 80 psi in the rear tires of an unloaded pickup then they wonder why they are having tire wear problems. It's only common sense that with as much torque as these trucks have it's going to be very difficult to get traction under most circumstances with tires inflated to the max.

I hope somebody comes up with a solution for this as I don't look forward to harsh ride and premature tire wear, but this problem has been around since 07 and I don't think it's going to go away any time soon.

No you don't have to run 80 psi, I have been running 65 in the rear and about 70 in the front for a month now.

Mine alert at 62 - 63 psi. I run at 65 - 66 now and it seems to be fine. I would like to go 60, but can't without dealing with the alerts.

be great if one of the aftermarket tuners could disable this feature...
even if they had to market it as an "off-road only" feature for legal reasons.

Your dealer can reprogram the pressures to anything you want. Only problem with this is that it is illegal - So I doubt you'll be able to get it done unless you know someone real well...

what federal statute says its illegal? never heard of that. the mercedes system allows the driver to reset the pressure parameters from the dash, so i dont think that would fly if it were illegal.

im waiting on a call back from 3 dealerships in the area to see if they are capable, they were closed for today but i left voicemails.

my 08 suburban displays the actual pressures, and alerts at 10% difference between front or rear tires

Please get more info on you stating that dealers can set your computer to whatever you'd like. I Know my dealer (service manager and techs really well) and no can do. They said it can't be done

No scan tool was provided with the 2011. There is another reset procedure that takes it's place. You'll find this procedure in the manual but good luck, it's a PITA. Going to the dealer was much easier for me

Are you talking about the TPMS retrain procedure? I've done it so many times I'm sure I mumble it in my sleep. Ignition on > flasher three times > let pressure out of driver front tire til the horn sounds > passenger front > passenger rear > driver rear > horn sounds once > acknowledge the information display > refill tires to desired pressure above 65 psi.

I fought with this trying to get it to learn lower pressures but eventually gave up. 65 and above keeps the low pressure warning from re-occuring.
