WHICH MULTIMETER

I need to get a mutimeter,I am following the advice I got here and want to test the under valve cover harness.I have never used one and there are alot of options,I was wondering if someone could recommend one.Thanks.

If you have a harbor freight tools near you. Go there and get one of theirs that is like 2.99. If you dont have alot of use for it then it would be perfect for you.

I would reccomend spending a couple more bucks (10-20 total) to get a digital meter. Just makes reading them a little easier and less chance of looking at the wrong scale.

it is a digital multimeter, not the one with the needle

Get one that has the continuity test with sound. Very handy. Fluke, Craftsman and Greenlee are some names that come to mind.

Don't buy a low priced unit. Probably be the most expensive unit you get your hands on after it gives you wrong conclusions.

at work i have a mac tools one that cost a pretty penny. at home i have a craftsman that i think i paid about $25 for. i have been able to do everything i need with the craftsman. i am not an electrician so i am sure there is alot of features i will never use or know how to use.

Fluke makes a great meter if u want to spend a little more. UEI makes a good middle of the road multimeter also that is less expensive than Fluke - Check fleabay or local pawn shops.

fluke but then again i depend on acurate results.. for home use go with a 40 buck one from sears.

it's a vampire probe, you squeeze the wire in it and it pirces the insulation with a very sharp little needle

I have a Fluke 27 in my service van I think it was close to $400 new, but I also have a Radio Shack one for my PSD that works great and has the audible contiuity check as well. Radio Shack also has a pocket sized one that works great and also has the audible continuity for $30, I have had two, first one got swiped and I lost the second one, but they work great too and real handy to keep in the glove box.

Push the button on the back, place wire in slot, release button and like mentioned a tiny pin pierces the wire insulation. I have one but like an idiot one day I used it to send 12v into a wire that had a short and the pin in the tool fried away.
