WHICH MULTIMETER
If you have never used one the 5 buck one from harbor freight is good because you might let out the smoke. The Craftsman is a much better tool and it has the tone, 20 bucks. They all will work. Do you understand the basics of what your are measuring? Ohms, Volts Ect? any tool will work.

For truck use go to Home Depot or Lowes and pick up a Sperry or a Ideal multimeter with a current clamp. You can get one for under $100 I have an Ideal in my truck and a Sperry at work along with a Fluke. They are both fine for what you are going to be doing.
I just bought a kit at WalMart that had a meter, pen that checks hot wires and terminals, and a 3 prong plug in that tells you if ur sockets/plug ins in your house are wired correctly. Only $23 it works nice and goes upto 600V and 10+ AMPS. Not a bad buy for the little use i will use it. It has a beeper too.
