It's amazing how these v10's only take 87, when my 6cyl bmw needs 89 or higher....

The bmw has 195psi of cranking compresion.Probably has almost 200whp from a 3litre 6cyl.
Wonder how much cranking compresion a 2v v10 has?

Have any of you noticed a difference if you use 87 octane at high altitude vs using the 85 octane? I just got my new to me Excursion.
I live in Utah and we end up paying the same for 85 that everyone else can get 87 for. Best you can do at most stations is 91, Maverick is one of the few places that you have more than three choices.

I use 88 for daily driving. But I use 92 when towing a travel trailer.

I use 89. I like it. The V10 seems to like it. I get no complaints from the motor, not one ping outa her.

87 Here as well in my 01. No issues, I ran 93 for a few tanks to see if mileage changed at all, no difference.

i remember awhile back 6686 was arguing that the motor should not ping at all..mine always has.....since im always at low rpm...i fool the trans into shifting to low rpm and bearly touch the pedal for fuel economy....if im going uphill or give too much pedal it will ping...but if it shifts down then it stops...im unemployed...The x has the original cops and about 40,000 on the plugs....and i use the cheap gas..87?

I run 93 octane now but that just because I run a performance program. It ran fine before on 87

I run 87 without ethanol. Runs fine. Have tried 91 octane but sensed no difference in performance or fuel economy. Have run ethanol a couple of times and the MPG dropped 1-2 miles. Went back to straight gas.

I've been using 87 since I started this thread. No problems at all.
I didn't realize my thread would be so popular :-)
