It should be fine on 87 octane. If it's not, there is something that needs to be addressed.

Don't use octane booster, depending on what it is, it can hurt the O2 sensors and the catalytic converter. But definitely try to figure out why it's pinging.
I use 87 50% of the time and 91the other 50% I've been running test to see if while towing it pays back enought or not. I keep a log book but have not done all the calculatoins yet but i do know it gets better with the 91 but not sure if it pays for the difrance in price or not. My truck is only rarely driven with out the 11,000 trailer hanging off the back, I tried to break it in before hauling the trailer ~2500. It's got just over 10,000 mile on it now.
I need to sit down with the calculator and run the numbers.
I run 87 octane unless I am traveling at altitudes above 4000 then often I use 85 octane. I can't tell the difference when driving. This is also with a 10,000lb travel trailer.
