78-79 Factory Interior?

Hi, this should be an easy question for somebody who has an original truck, but mine has been Frankensteined together so many times by so many different people that I'm not sure if there is enough of one truck present to call any part original.

Anyway though, I have some brand new aftermarket carpeting for my cab floor and back wall (from previous owner) that I'm considering puting in. My truck is a 1979 F150 Custom, and I'm wondering what the interior of one of those looked like from the factory. Was there carpet on the floor? What was on the back wall (behind the seat)? What was on those sort of foot and a half wide triangular areas under the dashboard on each sidewall of the cab? Pictures would be great, but I'm not trying to do a historical recreation, I'm just curious, so any description helps.

Thanks, AleX

What color are you talking ?

Yes, Kick panels were carpeted.

There were 2 grades of carpet

The XLT and Lariat got a thicker more plush carpet.

The carpet behind the seat stopped where it meets the cab wall.

Custom's could have anything the owner wanted and the way the factory built it

If u wanted to, email ford your vin number and they will send you a build sheet with all the options installed on your truck. The report is free.

Ooohh really? When I first heard about Customs I automatically figured that of course, they were customizable, but a few years ago after some reading up on the different trim options I for some reason came under the impression that Custom was just the trim level above Ranger. Well, to give you some more detail then, the truck was a light turquiose green, had AC, seems to have had a much much darker and more metallic green interior (dash and doors), and had some wood grain detailing on the glove compartment door and on the AC panel. I guess if Customs could be anything though, then that leaves the door open anyway. One of the reasons I started thinking about this though, was that the carpet that I have is 8 feet long. When shoved all the way forward so that it even goes around the base of the steering column, it fits almost perfectly along the whole floor, and all the way up the back wall to the rear window, but I thought that was a pretty strange place for a rug? Is this a crewcab carpet?
Thanks

That must be an American thing because here the Ranger holds a higher status than a Custom.

Interesting!

Nevermind, I'm still mixed up, the Ranger is a higher trim level than the Custom here, it had the chrome strip in the dent and all that. If someone could order all the different trim levels for me that would probably help... Lariat, down to Ranger, down to XLT, Custom, then?

Well speaking of interesting.... My truck was originally a straight 6! At least the cab was. It's funny how depending on what forum I'm in, I almost always have a different truck. Here it's a 79, there it's a 77 400 C6, somewhere else I'm not even sure. Thanks though.

Another option, it might have never had carpet... it could have been the vinyl/plastic floor cover and floor mats.

In my understanding it goes from bottom to top, Custom, Ranger, XLT, Lariat... You can have combinations too, my Bronco is a Ranger XLT... badged both.

Ifigure after 30+ years, your lucky it resembles a truck, after that its a crap shoot for options.. Good Luck!

Custom is the bottom trim level, Chevy it was Custom Deluxe. They could be ordered with any individual option though.
