Hey guys, after popping in a new floor in my truck I'm getting ready to order some new carpet and I've run into a snag. I've tried searching the forums and couldn't find an answer to my question so I guess I'll go ahead and start a new thread on it.
Anyway, I've got a '76 F150 2WD regular cab with the C6 auto (think its the low tunnel). I pulled and tossed out what I'm pretty sure was the original carpet and it was the 80/20 loop style. When I go to the Stock Interiors website it's telling me that the only thing I can order for that year is cut pile and has the years grouped together from '74 thru '79. They have 80/20 loop carpet but its only listed under 1973. Sounds like from what I've read on the forums all the carpet out there pretty much comes from ACC. Most of the vendors I've looked at group their carpets by model years the same way as Stock Interiors and I was just kind of wondering what the deal was.
I'd really like to use the loop carpet because I think it holds up better and its what the truck originally came with I believe. My question is, is there any reason a carpet listed under '73 wouldn't work in a '74-'79? The only thing I can figure is either the transmission tunnel changed or maybe they just list it separately because some book says everyone stopped using loop after '73. Anyone else have a '76 that had loop?
Also, anyone that's recently replaced their carpet in a similar truck let me know how it fit and and how well the whole procedure went. Sounds like in the past the carpets didn't fit that well but hoping that's been fixed by now. Thanks in advance guys!
When I restored my 72 F250, I ordered my molded carpet from Stock Interiors in the 80/20 loop. That is what was original to the 72 pickup. My current 74 F350 also has the original loop carpet. If I were you, I would ask their customer service folks about the loop for the 76. I am almost positive that the loop was original in the 76 and NOT the plush or cut pile. I agree with you that the loop is much nicer and original. If their customer service isn't helpful, I would probably order the molded carpet under the "73" order tab. It doesn't make sense that they only offer it for the 73 and then lump everything else under the 74-79 tab when the loop was part of the other years. I was VERY happy with the carpet that I ordered from them for my 72. Great quality. I also asked them to leave the ends untrimmed. This gave me ample carpet to make sure it wasn't short on the sides, plus it gave me a lot extra that I could actually wrap it up over my in-cab gas tank.

Cannot help you on the carpet but if you have the c6, auto it is likely the high hump when you do find what you are looking for. Good Luck.
Thanks for the feedback, I knew I couldn't be the only guy with a later year pickup that had loop. Hopefully I can order loop for '76 just in case there were any differences in the floor pan on a '73, I wouldn't think there would be though unless the transmission tunnel was different.
Glad to hear that you were happy with the carpet, after reading a lot of complaints about the quality in another thread I was a little worried. Good tip about ordering it untrimmed, one of the most common complaints I read was it being too short on the sides. Hopefully I'll have enough to cover up the floor behind the seat, did the carpet you order go all the way to the back of the cab or did it stop under the seat like the original?

I too had read complaints about the carpet being too short on the sides, which is why I asked for it to be untrimmed. That seemed to give me plenty of carpet for the sides. My 72 did not originally have carpet but I wanted it to go up as far up the rear cab wall as possible which is another reason I ordered it "untrimmed". With the extra, I was able to wrap the carpet up the rear cab wall quite a bit. In regard to the high tunnel, I suspect with the C6, you would have the high tunnel. I think if you have a hump that is at least 5" high, you have the high tunnel but check it out. You might also ask Stock interiors and they can help you determine.
I ordered mine from Stock Interiors also. I specified "untrimmed" and they sent me the one that was trimmed and bonded on the side. Mine is in fact a little short on the sides, it did cover all the way to the back though.
I called and complained, they were more than willing to work with me on it. We came to an agreement and they sent me a free set of kick-panel carpet covers.

Thanks for showing me how the carpet came, now I know to make sure it comes untrimmed. It looks like our trucks are pretty much the same color. The kick panels on my truck have a hole in them by the floor, I'm going to make patches this weekend and get everything sealed up pretty good hopefully. How do you like the kick panel carpet? I'm hoping that a set of those will cover up my patch panels nicely.

That's exactly how mine looked when I installed mine also. I wasn't too happy, but you can't really tell since I have a rhinolined floor to match the black carpet. I know the next time I have to replace though, I'm going to try and go elsewhere.
Here's the carpet (untrimmed) from Stock Interiors that I installed in my 72 Ford. If you look at pic 2, you can kind of see that I had a lot of extra along the sides that I had to trim off. Plus in pic 3 you can see how much I had extra lengthwise to wrap up behind the gas tank along the cab wall.

Thanks for posting the pictures! Glad to see they gave you plenty of carpet for the rear of the cab and enough to ensure you wouldn't come up short on the sides. I'm going to call them tomorrow and place the order, here's hoping I get plenty of extra carpet too. By the way, the carpet looks great in your truck. Like the light blue paint too!
