All,
I am taking of the cheap old interior door handle and window crank and replacing it with new repros. My question is: How do I attach the window crank with the escutheon on. It is spring loaded but it looks near immopsible to attach the pin. And is the pin a special pin or will a cotter pin work?
no special pin but it must be able to slide through the hole in the handle and the hole in the shaft that the handle turns, also it can be no longer than the smallest diameter of the escutcheon. When I install them I insert the pin into the handle with the hole situated horizontally so gravity doesn't cause the pin to fall out, the pin has to only be in the first hole of the handle not protruding into the area of the shaft. then with the esc. sitting in position I use the handle with the pin sticking out to compress the spring. then when the pin lines up with the hole in the shaft I push the pin in with a screwdriver or small rod. I hope this helps
