Hello i have a 1998 ford expedition 4x4 and i need to get the windsheild wipers fixed heres my problem I hold down the button for the front windsheild wipers they dont turn on. I turn the spray on in the back and it sprays windshield wiper fluid so is my switch bad because the motors are good in the front.
Yes it's the multi-function switch. You can usually confirm this by turning on the right or left turn signal, then push the switch. 9 out of 10 times if the problem is a worn switch, doing this will make the washer fluid squirt.
before you spend any money, pull the cover for the stering wheel and see of any of the wires have come a bit loose on the multi function swtich, I had the same problem and bought a new one and when I was replacing it ... I saw the wires pulled out a bit, pushed them back in and they worked just fine... just a tought
Depending on where you drive makes a difference on how long the switch lasts. If you do mostly town or city driving there are more turns, so the switch operates often. If you drive mostly out in rural or suburbs where the roads are longer with less turns, then the switch lasts longer.

It was changed TWICE while still under the original 3 yr / 36,000 mile warranty. The turn signals never died, but the wiper/washer function crapped out both times.I believe there is a post on this site detailing how to disassemble and clean this switch.
