Coolant Level Rising
Coolant Level Rising
I used the search function and found some similar situations but not exactly what is happening to my Ex so here is my issue. I just recently had oil cooler, egr cooler and head gaskets with ARP studs installed by a Ford dealership in my 2004 Excursion. The coolant level in the degas bottle had been holding steady at just under the min mark since the repair including a 400 mile trip towing my 9,000 lb travel trailer over the cascade mountains a few days after the repair. I have an Edge Insight to monitor EOT and ECT and they stayed within 15 degrees for the entire trip except for a short time during an extended pull over the pass when the max difference was about 17* with the highest EOT of 233*. Temps have been about 3 degrees difference on average unloaded since the trip.
I had not checked the coolant level since I returned from the trip a week ago and so yesterday I popped the hood and saw that the coolant level was higher than the max line. It was so high that it was hard to tell that there was any coolant in the bottle until I took the cap off. This was checked immediately after shutting down the truck that had been driven to full operating temps. I then started the truck back up and parked it as level as I could and level did come down some, about half way between the min and max line. This morning when I checked it cold at 64* the level was about a half inch above the min line.
I know the bottle's function is for expansion of the coolant but I thought it was strange to be so full after it had been holding steady for a couple of weeks. Has this happened to any of you or does anybody have any advice? Thanks.

I have noticed on mine that it doesn't take much off level to make the degas bottle look way too full or way too low. It's just the way the bottle is shaped.
If it was overfilled and didn't blow any out, that is a good sign.
