Introduction, and NP435 Question

Hello All!

I just signed up for this forum today, and there is lots of great info on here. I also spend time on the Slick 60's site, fordtruk.com. Anyway I have a '65 F-100 that I am restoring, I will get up some of the pictures of my restore soon, as I have a lot to post. But first to a question that you all might be able to help me with...I have a NP435 tranny in my truck, and I have not been able to locate a output shaft seal for this tranny. I have tried NAPA and the local Kragen, and they both list and have 2 different seals than what I have. And they only list these 2. Here is the info off of the data plate on the tranny. C5TA- 7003M F-28 7 14 65 435. Can anyone offer me any help on a part number for the output shaft seal on this transmission???

Phil

D2TZ-4813-A is the ford PN I get. This tranny was available from 65-92 so there may be a revision.

The Chicago Rawhide # is CR-526-497
This seal measures 3.25"od, 2.5"id, and 1/2 thick.

Green sales has them 800-543-4959 as do many others.

I am suprised that your auto parts store canot get you one as this is a simple measuring job with the seal interchange book.

Flipklos, First of all thank you for your time, and help! Ok, so I went out and measured the outside diameter of my yoke, which should be the ID of the seal I need, and then I measured the OD of the old seal. The measurements are this...2.375in OD, and 1.4375in almost a 1.5in. Any other suggestions? And the guys at the Kragen down the street from my house are very useless! The NAPA is about 25 minutes away, which isn't terrible, but I don't take the drive unless I absolutely have too.

You absolutely sure you have a NP435 and not a T18?

I would take the seal to a NAPA when you get time.

WRONG part number. Did you notice this seal is listed in parts list 6A?

Did you also notice there are other parts lists?

If you looked up C5TA-7003-M in the M/T trans charts (text, section 70, page 15) you would have seen: 1965 F100/250 2WD NP435 / Parts list number 6B / 6A = F500/700.

D9BZ7052A (replaced C4TZ7052A) .. Extension Housing Seal / 2.380" O.D. / 1.498" I.D. / 1/2" wide / Available from Ford.

MSRP: $17.98 // FTE Ford Dealer Parts Dept sponsor PARTSGUYED.COM price: $12.95.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jacks 65: You can order this seal (at a discount) from PartsGuyEd = Horizon Ford in Seattle, WA or...

Team Ford in Las Vegas NV has TWO = 702-395-5150.
----------------------------------------------------
flipklos: D2TZ4813A is still available from Ford ~ MSRP: $42.98 / PartsGuyEd discount price: $30.95.

Don't send people to Green Sales (where they'll have to pay big bucks for parts) unless you know the part is obsolete.

You can find this out by typing the number into PartsGuyEd's website.

Thanks for the info, Bill! What would us amateurs do without professionals like you on this forum to help us out?! Flipklos, I really do appreciate you jumping in to help as well. I guess my next question would be why none of the parts stores have these available...was the extension housing on my transmission not commonly used? Or do they just not know what they are doing?

There's the answer right there.

This same seal not only fits many NP435's, but many other M/T's and A/T's as well.

You might have better luck asking for an extension housing seal for the Ford RUG TS/OD = single rail 4 speed overdrive installed in 1977/83 Fairmont/Zephyr/Mustang/Capri, F100/150 & E100/150.

It's the same puppy.
