timing off could make your truck run leaner maker the pipes hotter but i would almost bet your cat is clogged if your loosing power or the motor just stalling cats can do that just because it can get the air out of motor and i have had dodge running bad look under truck and cat was cherry red i cut that one off and put a peice of pipe in place but i think its against the law in some states to cut them off and most muffler shops wont cut them off

ya im not worried bout the legality, its already tech illegal, luckily i was able to buy a sticker, but i figured either clogged or the timing, when i put my hand behind the muffler, it was blowing out hard, just was way to hot even for exhuast, then i looked n it was red, what should the timing be? its an 86, 302 efi i went from manual to auto

You can't lean out the mixture, the computer does it. You may have a hung open injector, bad o2, or another bad sensor.
