i have 78 ford f-150 with a 3 inch lift. it rides really rough. it did have dual shocks up front but i took the ones in front of the axle off. the lift coils are stiff but i was wondering what shocks would give the best ride. i drive on alot of backroads and on the highway. i don't do much off roading but the truck does sometimes pull a trailer. i was thinking of swapping the coils for some superlift soft ride springs so what shocks would complement them
hey ive got superlift soft ride leaf springs up front and thier awsome. i have dual front shocks up front also. i think the superlift shocks are good. they are way better than stock. eveyone else on here always says buy rancho or bilstien.
Rancho shocks are the classic choice. I was running Superlift shocks on my last Bronco and they were great. Edelbrock makes some really nice ones to, but they are a little more pricey.
Bronco351 - Which Rancho shocks are you running? I put RS5000's on my Bronco about 5 years ago and I never really liked them. I find the ride to be a bit too harsh.
I'm getting ready for new shocks myself so I'll be watching this thread closely.
Also, I was told that my truck would tend to wander on the highway more with gas shocks. Any truth to this?
Hi, I'm also running the RS5000's on my truck. I got the dual front shock set up. ALso I've never heard of gas shocks affecting the truck. The only thing that causes wandering would be bad springs or bad alignment even under inflated tires! Hope this helps.
P.S. By the way I love my Rancho shocks theyre real strong true it doesn't make the truck ride like a Lincoln but for off-roading it's my shock of choice. Hope this helps!!
well i dont do too much off-roading. i need something that will actually absorb the shock of ruts and stuff. right now when i hit bump you can hear stuff in the interior crack. its loosening everything up. i want a nice soft smooth ride. or at least the best for a truck. i know i cant get it to ride like a lincoln but it could be alot better than it is now
rancho 5000's all the way. i have them and dont offroad much at all. the ride is not bad at all. i actually dont like hitting a dip in the road and bouncing 2 times. i like just goving over it and not bouncing. i HATE when the ride is all soft. offroad they are great. on the road they are great too. wayyyyyyyy better than factory. thats the only shock ill get
Yeah I like the 5000's too but what about the Rancho RSX or 9000s? How do they do on the road. The 9000 seems like a good idea for those of use that don't do much off-road. We can keep them soft them crank em on the weekend excursions...
I have the rancho 9000x and they are the best shocks i have ever had. I can set the shocks how i want them. personally i use a 1-2 on the highway; 2-4 in the city; 4-6 for towing a boat; 6-8 for towing heavy loads; and 4-7 for off road. If the ride is too soft or too rough for you all you have to do is adjust them. Also you do not really need the 9000 all the way around you can go with any shock of your choice in the front and the 9000x in the rear.
Do the adjustable shocks make a big difference in ride? I have Skyjacker "Soft ride" springs and Nitro shocks, and the ride is extremely stiff. Off-roading is sometimes unbearable.
Is switching to Rancho 9000s worth it? Does anyone have experience with Explorer Pro-Comp's adjustable shocks?
