AC problem

Im trying to diagnose my a/c problem. It does work about 75% of the time blowin nice cold air. When its really hot outside, i notice every once in a while it will stop blowing cold air. When this happens, i notice a change in the smell of the air coming from the vents as well. Lately, its been happening more often. I took it to a buddy of mine do a pressure test and he added some freon, but no change after that. I'm lookin for any suggestions since its still ***** hot here in loiusiana.

This is good info, I think I may have to do this myself, thanks for the info.
Clint, you will have to let us know if you did this and what the result was.

Multiple fixes

I beleive a dozen or so folks have done that fix this summer alone. It didn't work for Chris(F350-6) if I remember right, he had to replace the clutch pack, but its a cheap easy place to start. Ed sells the shim kit for like 13 bucks, but even the thinnest spacer in the shim kit needed to be ground down to get my air gap correct.

There should be a shim in there already, just grind it down if you have the means and you won't have to buy any. I got a shim pack from the stealership a long time ago and all the shims were thicker than what was already in there except one, seems like alot of $ for one shim that wasn't thin enough anyway.

The part number and thicknesses of each shim are detailed on my web page, linked above in Post #2.

I also make note of the fact that they are kinda pricey for what they are!

Shim packs are for those who can't innovate!
