I am looking for anyone that might have done this. I am going to get out the 6.0 bible and my service manual dvd tomorrow and get it done. There has to be a way. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
I am just gonna wire up a switch to the ground on the dome lights. But mine is an XLT so it doesn't have door lights. You could do the same but the doors would add a lot of wiring complication.
Well I got it done.... There was the black wire with a blue trace behind the passenger side kick panel. It is a thin wire(maybe a 16awg). This wire only controlled the front dome light. There is another black wire with a blue trace under the drivers side sill panel(in the big bushel of wire) and it controlled the rear dome light and the cargo light. I used a 14awg speaker wire(since it has two wires together, and after cutting the black/blue wires, I connected each of the cut ends to one of the speaker wire). The speaker wire allowed me to run a wire from the cut black/blue wire, to a switch on the dash, and the second wire was there to go from the switch back to the other black/blue wire that I cut. I then had to play with the 4 wires I ended up with at the switch position to get the right wires connected to each of the switch terminals. There are two wires hooked to each of the terminals on the switch. I got a simple switch with no light that is a push on push off type(just like the stock chevy switch) from radio shack. I used about 8-9 feet of 14awg speaker wire for both wires(passenger kick panel and the drivers sill plate). It allows me total control of the dome lights and also allows the map lights in front and back to continue to function as normal. Great mod
