Can someone explain the price diff in headers?

I was on Holley's site looking at Hooker and Flowtech headers. For my truck I can go with Hooker for $450 or Flowtech for $130. Where is the difference? What do I get for the additional $320 bucks? Is it just the difference between steel and ceramic??

Shane

Has to do with the guage of the tubing(thickness)..the thickness if the head flange, less chance of warping for sealing(leaks)..ceramic costs more to have done...but worth it..no paint coming off or rusting...and the header fit to each application....you pay for what you get...

Adding to what graden said about getting what you pay for, good set of headers are tuned.

So basically the Flowtech are simply bent steel pipes and the Hookers are fine tuned products?

I didn't say that Shane, I said a good set of headers are tuned. Let's not be putting words in my mouth. P.S. love the signature.

That got me chuckling good.

I went the cheap route on my 79 a few years ago, and picked up a set of Summit long-tubes. The power difference I'm sure wasn't any worse, and they were obviously made by one of the other companies and sold as Summit, but they did blow out a flange gasket in under a year, and burned off paint and began to rust (expected with non ceramic) in no time at all.

The price difference is really the ceramic coating. Comes down to how many times you want to fight a set of rotted headers out and install new ones (that might fit a bit different than the last set) over the next 5 years...

Haha, I wasnt trying to be a smartbutt, was kinda serious. I really dont know alot about this kind of stuff (I'm a technology/computer guy). Sorry if I came across that way!

If I bought the cheaper ones, would a powder coating keep them from rusting as quickly?

Or...is there another manufacturer you would recommend taking a look out? I'm just in the research/planning phase of my build.

Thanks!

I'm not feeling like playing games today Shane, go play with someone else. What is the real definition of a Troll anyway? Wouldn't it be the guy that starts posts with the intent of making fools out of people? If you go with headers, make sure they are ceramic coated. Painted steel headers will rust and in six months you'll hate them.

?? I'm not even sure what this means?

What is the real definition of a Troll anyway? Wouldn't it be the guy that starts posts with the intent of making fools out of people?
Again, ?? I'm openly admitting I dont know anything about this so not sure how I'm making someone else look like a fool...?

You're a computer tech and still haven't figured out how to prevent rust or enough sense to post part numbers so people can actually help you?
In my 17 years in the IT field, I have yet needed to paint, ceramic coat, or powder coat anything to withstand the temperatures an engine can produce nor have I researched it as a personal point of interest. I really dont see how my technological expertise would have anything to do with the automotive field.

I came here to learn, sorry if I stepped on some toes, however I may have done it...

I'm looking at a new motherboard Shane. One is an EVGA for $450 the other is a Biostar for $130. What do I get for that additional $320? Were that a real question I would take the opportunity to use my knowledge and give an educated, helpful response. Not act like a hostile turd.

For the record (and since i cant resist), EVGA and Biostar are both junk unless you need a 478 socket in which Biostar is the only one producing new boards. If you are using an Intel chip, I recommend Intel, Asus, or Gigabyte in that order. If you are an AMD man, Asus and then Gigabyte. The extra money could stem from the chipset, compatible CPU (dual core, core 2 duo, Xeon, Xtreme, etc) available RAM slots, dual or single SLI (if available at all), or onboard peripherals (i.e. HDMI, eSATA, HD Audio, RAID, etc).

Are you saying EVGA is a bunch of scrap transistors and ASUS is a fine tuned product? P.S. I had an ASUS, it lasted two days!
