65 - VIN

I am buying a 65 F100 and I would like my vin decoded if possible - F11GR649755
WB - 120
MODEL - F110
BODY - D81
TRANS - N
AXEL - 08

I UNDERSTAND THAT I HAVE A 120" WHEEL BASE, BUT I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE OTHER NUMBERS. I DO HAVE A TWO SPEED TRANSFER CASE AND A 4 SPEED TRANNY. THE MOTOR IS A 390 WITH A 352 STAMPED ON THE FRONT OF THE BLOCK (RIGHT SIDE LOOKING TOWARDS THE REAR), 4 BARREL CARB WITH A SMALL HIGH RISE MANIFOLD AND 3" DUAL EXHAUST. THE BODY AND FRAME ARE RUST FREE AND STRAIGHT. NO POWER ANYTHING - JUST A DEPENDABLE DAILY DRIVER - I HOPE.

Welcome to FTE

F11 = F100 4WD

G = ? No such VIN engine code. 1965 F100/250 2WD/4WD & F350: B = 300 I-6 / D = 352 2V / J = 240 1V I-6.

R = San Jose CA Assembly Plant.

649755 = 1965, assembled February 1965.

120" Wheelbase.

No COLOR code listed.

F110 = F100 4WD, 5600 lbs. GVWR

D81: D = Light Beige Crush Vinyl & Medium Beige Ladder Pattern Woven Plastic / 81 = 81B Custom Cab.

N = New Process 435 4 Speed Manual Transmission.

08 = Ford 9" Rear Axle / 3.50-1 / non Limited Slip / 3,300 lb. Rear Axle Capacity.

GVW omitted: It's 5,600 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

HP & RPM omitted.

DSO code omitted.

390 engine introduced in F100/350's in 1968, used thru 1976 in 2WD's only.

Since all 352/360/390/410/428 engines were originally cast as 352's, thru circa 1971, all have the foundry marking of 352 cast on the engine block.

The only power equipment available in 1965: Power Drum brakes.

Since all FE engines look identical, and...on sale day 352 engines magically become 390's, measuring the stroke is the easiest way to determine engine size:

Stroke: 352 = 3.50" / 390 = 3.78"

Thanks

Thank you for the information. Maybe the "G " that I wrote down was a "B" and my old eyes didn't catch it.

I was told that the motor was a 390 and my mechanic has been putting 390 parts on it.

Any numbers that I should look for on the axels and transfer case/trans so I know what I have for furture servicing and or parts?

Is there a book (mechanics) out there and is one better than another?

Again thanks for all the info.

Almost all the parts that fit a 390, also fit the 352 ... that was the only V8 offered in 1965/67 F100/350's.

The parts difference between a 352 vs a 390: The crankshaft, pistons and rods.

It's a 1965 F100
Welcome to FTE

It's not a 1965 with a Y as the VIN engine code. D was used in 1965 for the 352, Y was used in 1966 for the 352.

The last 6 digits of the VIN is the serial number (aka Numerical Sequence of Assembly), decodes to the month/year truck was assembled.

F10 = F100 2WD

Y = 352 2V

R = San Jose CA Assembly Plant.

777070 = 1966, assembled October 1965.

New vehicles are historically introduced in September of the previous year, so new vehicle production begins in August.
