I towed a 4000 lb camper for several years with an FX4 5.4L truck. It did fine. But when I bought a 6000 lb 27 footer, my 1/2 ton didn't pass muster.I ended up trading for this 2007 F250 FX4 with 6.0L, hoping it would tow better but not convinced it would be that much better. I was at least hoping to be able to tow with everything level. My half ton wouldn't level even with the WD hitch.
I wish I had done this years ago. The truck settled 3 inches without the WD bars in place as opposed to 8 inches before. When I went to the highway, I actually got to highway speed in a great amount of time. I could also pull 65 and 70 mph. My other one struggled to get to 60. I think I'm liking this trade more and more.
Welcome to the forum. You are comparing truck that was design for commute driving with a truck that was design to work.
While the engine you have had some early problems, I am using its older brother to haul 30,000 lb sets.
It is amazing isn't it!?.. I tow a car hauler with a show car, 7000lbs.
did this behind my 08 suburban, and the 2000 suburban before that.
always right on the line of towing capacity..
picked up an 08 F350 and wow, I never realized towing could be this enjoyable.. put it on cruise and away you go.. and the mileage is way better.. (not yet 'good', but way better)
9 vs 6..

Congrats on the new truck. I think you will be pleased with the 250 I do have my doubts about the "old" truck though....... I have a 26' camper that weighs the same as the one you are currently pulling(6k lbs) and it sits level with my OBS f-150 with no WD hitch and the 5.0 with 3.55 gears has never struggled to reach or maintain 60 mph. I wouldn't hesitate to pull your truck and your camper with my 5.4 and have no doubts about it getting to 60 with ease.
I was seriously disappointed when it acted the way it did with the new camper. I liked my 150. When I picked up the camper, the business owner who I've dealt with several times, tried for an hour or better to get it leveled. He didn't understand what was going on either. We adjusted everything on the hitch that could be adjusted and never leveled it. And the only way to get it to 60 was downhill. Once there, it would hold the speed until the next uphill run. None of those problems now.

There had to be something wrong with your truck for it to sag that much. That is not normal by any means. You are looking at about 800 lbs of tongue weight with that camper, which should not even be close to making a 150 squat. A lot of people have complained about problems with the springs though, so that could have been what was wrong with it.
It should not have had any problems getting to 60 either. I routinely pull 10-11k with mine with no issues at all. It cruises at 2k rpm at 60 mph on flat land and between 3-4k rpm on long hills. You just can't be afraid to let it turn some rpms going up the hills.
hmmmm....800lbs? Sounds familiar for some reason or other....Oh yes, that's right, my F150 squatted like that with a smallish 840lbs of rock in it...(Leafs were worn out)

Might want to take this back to the V10 vs PSD thread...
Anyway to the OP congrats on the new (to you) truck and welcome to FTE! Plenty of good information and people here.

I wasn't arguing it. I was pointing out to the OP that he should check his leaf springs. Mine were worn out in short order from running around with a load in it 24/7. I enjoyed the ride in my 150 a lot. It rides nice because it absorbs the bumps by allowing a lot of travel in the shocks and springs. The more they flex, the quicker they wear.
Well, it's too late now in any case. The F150 has been gone for nearly a month. I'm enjoying the size and power of this truck now. It even gets better mileage by 2 mpg city and highway.
Unfortunately you can't have everything.
I load my F450 with unbelievable weights what is good for that, but than when I drive empty I don't lower the 90psi in the tires. The result is very harsh ride and loosing control on road crowns.

Yes, mine gets better mileage too. Hard to believe a 6.4 TT gets better mileage than a 5.4 na, but they do.

We weren't debating psd vs gas. The OP said his 150 was squatting 8" with a 6k lb camper, which means something was seriously wrong with his truck since that is not normal. Chargersfan was pointing that he had the same problem and that his leaf springs were worn out, that it wasn't the trucks fault. The OP also said his 5.4 could not reach 60 mph on flat land towing 6k lbs, which also means there is something seriously wrong with his engine. I used to pull a 5k lb camper in Florida with a Mazda b2000 and never had trouble hitting 60 mph (or squatting 8"). Just saying either there is quite a bit of exaggerating going on or the OP had a worn out, sick as can be truck.
