Steering issues

I have a 2000 F350 and have issues with the hubs not disengaging. I checked the vacuum at the hubs and everything looks to be working ok. Passenger side is the one thats not working. can truck be driven without the hubs installed to test the steering?

What is leading you to the hub not disengaging? What are you experiencing in the steering? I can drive my truck in 2wd with the hubs locked with no steering issues.

when I jack the front end up the passenger side hub will not disengage all of the time. Driver side also seems to take a while to disengage

Have you ever taken those hubs apart and cleaned/greased them? It's not real difficult to do, you just need to be careful to get them together the same way they come apart.

How is this affecting your steering?

yes i just did that over the week end. What happens is only one hub is unlocked and when you turn wheel it wants to jerk back and forth.

You may have more than one issue. Check to see if the U-joints on the axle behind the hubs are binding.

I did look at the u joints they seem fine. Do you know if I can run the truck with the hubs removed? this would answer alot of questions.

I know you can do it with the manual hubs. I have done it myself.

Manual hubs will be what goes back on if these ones are bad.
